New York Mets (53-33, 1st NL East) at Atlanta Braves (52-35, 2nd NL East)

Atlanta has seemingly snuck up on New York in the NL East standings, sitting only a game and half back going into tonight’s game. Max Scherzer (5-1, 2.26 ERA) gets the ball for New York, making his second start since coming off the IL. Atlanta turns to Max Fried (9-2, 2.52 ERA), one of their two proverbial aces. Despite New York being regarded as one of the best teams in baseball, Atlanta is favored at -115. Atlanta is 30-18 in home games this year, and are coming off a sweep of the lowly Washington Nationals. Fried threw against New York early this year, leading to an Atlanta win. Scherzer was terrific in his last start but saw no run support from his offense, as New York dropped that game to Cincinnati by a score of 1-0. This is shaping up to be a great game, with two teams that are very evenly matched. However, the value lies in New York, as it’s not very often that they’ll be the underdogs.

The Pick: New York ML (+105)

Detroit Tigers (36-49, 4th AL Central) at Kansas City Royals (32-52, 5th AL Central)

The second game of the double header is scheduled for an 8:10 PM ET start and Kansas City is favored at -135. Alex Faedo (1-4, 5.02 ERA) squares off against Daniel Lynch (3-7, 4.95 ERA), in this basement battle of the AL Central. Lynch actually hasn’t been terrible, he’s just gotten no run support. However, Kansas City is just 4-10 as the favorite this year and a shaky 16-26 at home. Detroit has surprised some people and are 35-30 as the underdog this year. Faedo hasn’t been great but Detroit has won six of 11 games that he’s pitched in.

The Pick: Detroit ML (+125)

Chicago White Sox (41-43, 3rd AL Central) at Cleveland Guardians (41-42, 2nd AL Central)

Chicago is the slight favorite in this one, at -115. They’ll send out Lance Lynn (1-1, 5.33 ERA) and Cleveland counters with Cal Quantrill (4-5, 3.86 ERA). While these two teams are evenly matched, the play in this one is the over. The line is set at nine runs and Lynn is averaging just under five runs allowed per game. Quantrill has given up almost a half a run per inning this year. Each team is averaging over four runs per game, making nine total not out of the questions. Both bullpens are also more than capable of giving up plenty of runs.

The Pick: Over 9 (-110)
